The Public access to information faces new challenges posed by the rapid propagation of knowledge in print and non-print formats, the emergence of computers and multi-media, the presence of information networks, and the internet. Experts today are of the belief that living in data society is impossible unless certain things are added to the traditional literacy. In effect, information literacy comes into focus. A literate person, by the latest definition, is the one who is able to locate, analyze, and use the information he needs. This view of literacy grants it a senior stance in modern times. The present article aims at information literacy and the related issues such as library literacy, computer literacy, network literacy, multi-media literacy, the role of information in teaching, and the standards of information literacy.
